A day at the Police Museum

Police Museum- Guest blog by Keshav

Introduction

Address: 483, Pantheon Rd, Komaleeswaranpet, Egmore, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600008

On 10th April 2024 me(Keshav), my 4 year old  brother(Raghu) and my grandfather(Major.Dr.V.Raghavan) were driving in our car after visiting the Palmgrove ecological park(for members only).

On our way back we decided to take the route through Chintadripet as we had not taken that route in a long time.As we were driving, my grandfather spotted the police museum (location given above)

So we thought why not go in. It was still a hour till lunch time, so we entered.

At first the place looked empty, but as we started walking a fair amount of people appeared. Most of them were at the cafeteria so there was no line at the ticket counter.
We were immediately greeted by a kind lady who explained everything in a kind manner Unlike other ticket agents. There is a option between online pay or cash .The total fee for all the three of us was 74 rupees .

The museum

The show started from the path outside. We first saw the plymouth car  and then the police cycle from 1866 and further ahead we saw the waterbike, bike and the bulletproof tata safari .As we entered the museum we saw a saber tooth tiger . Then we read about the police museum ,and entered the next room.In the next room there was an actual jail as. seen in many police stations it used to be a place where  many prisoners were held before being taken to the madras jail.my brother and I went into the jail and took a photo in it for fun.

After reading about the events that the police handled such as the covid times .......etc

We went to the next room which was filled with pictures of the DGP's of Tamil Nadu from its birth .This room was also the place where we met a girl (kokila)who explained everything in the next room which was about Bomb's .She explained each and everything from the bombs, Landmines ,grenades and even all the events such as the time where some people illegally bought construction bombs(used to break buildings)and turned them into a big bomb with which they bombed a part of coimbatore.

She also explained the event where a person(Krishnan) printed fake hundred rupee notes which looked so real and similar. I would not have realised that they were fake if they had not labeled the fake ones. After he was found out he was arrested. Kokila explained everything so well that if you asked me what is the first thing I remember about the museum was,it would be this.

After saying bye to kokila we saw the instruments that the police used in the police band .My favourites were the Bagpipe and the percussion .

The guns

My grandfather served in the Indian army as a doctor.Like all 11 year old boys I was most interested in the gun's, my grandfather used to use a carbine machine gun when he was in the army so he has told me stories about how it felt with your own real gun for only real emergency and practice .At my house I have a Nerf gun which is a toy gun which shoots foam bullets at a very high speed but I have always wanted to see a real cool gun. so as I entered the room I started searching for a good gun. I obviously was star struck when I found a real AK-47!!!!!!!!!!!! and a revolver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it looked so cool.I would tell about the many guns in the room but if I wrote so much you will most probably be reading a 600 word essay so it is time for me to go on to our last chapter the sword chair and touch screen.

Sword chair and touch screen

My grandfather is the most energetic 70 year old man I know.I thought he would be tired after seeing so much but he wanted to take us to the sword chair so we could take a picture with it as he had paid 10 rupees for it.After we took pictures we went downstairs and explored the huge touch screen showing bike stunts , dog training etc.... .We were so happy with the visit that my grandfather asked for the visitors book in which he wrote our names and everyone said a bit .MAJOR.DR.V.RAGHAVAN-The staff was very kind and well mannered .We were given helpful insights that even my grandchildren understood

KESHAV-A big thanks to the staff especially kokila for giving us such a wonderful time and helping me understand a lot about the museum

Raghu - Thank you police

And so we left with happy memories.
