Washington

The last week has simply been amazing. I feel like a wondering gypsy. I mean travelling across india was fine but now across the united states..what can I say? Maybe a liberated feeling??yes
Independance??yes
Confidence??yes:-)
Swas great. Her parents superb. It was a nice holiday. I reached baltimore by the grey hound to SN's house. It was a very comfortable journey. Sis meeting a classmate after two and half years and I am the first one she is meeting. So she was really looking forward to the trip and hats off to her to really "lay it down" for me. So today is day one. We went to DC. What a place. M now I understand why you were gushing. First stop was the capitol and we took the trip. Our tour guide was simply amazing. She explained the whole history of America and the working of constitution beautifully. The architecture was breathtaking. The fresco paintings on the dome of the capitol was 4800 feet wide. The supreme court building was majestic. I simply have no words to describe how beautiful it was. Photos will explain the beauty. It's amazing how much this country is into promoting liberal arts.
Stop 2 was the botanical gardens. The tempreture was 55 degrees farenheit and they had plants from all parts of the world. So inside they had maintained temperatures differently in different places. They had plants from india, the deserts, US, equador etc etc etc. Amazing!
Stop 3 was going to be washington monument. Just while we were walking towards the monument, I took off my coat because it was getting hot. Then we walked on and suddenly I felt my coat for my wallet. Lo behold I could not find it. I was shaking, it had my id, my debit card, my credit card..basically everything. We panicked and we tried tracing our way back. Finally we split paths and I went in one direction and sowmya in another. Two good souls found my wallet and handed it to sowmya. Can you believe it? My faith in humanity was restored and I have luck on my side and will not let my "tuppu kettathanam" fool me again.
After that we had lunch at potbellys. Then we went back to the washington monument. Sowmya got tickets for a flight up the monument. The monument was 50 floors high and once atop the monument, one get an aerial view of all the major landmarks in washington DC. Once I was there I spotted the holocust museum. I remembered mals talking about it, so we decided it would be stop number5.
I was amazed how one human being could be so cruel and could actually get away with it. The atrocities were potrayed beautifully with actual conversations and videos and graphic pictures of the jews extermination. It was heart breaking.
Stop 6 was the lincoln memorial. It was big and since I have seen so many pictures of it, I was not that impressed:-) (kozhupa thaan). We visited the other memorials and then the vietnam and korean war memorial. The murals in all these places were remarkable. All in all the place was worth being called the capital of the united states.
