Trip To Kabini - the land of the tiger

Hi I am Keshav.

I am an wildlife enthusiast ,melodious singer and a stylish cricketer.

Last week I visited the kabini wildlife reserve in the nagarhole national park . And I want to share my story to you all, 


Day 1 : Leaving Bangalore and evening safari.

 

We woke up at 6am ready to leave bangalore as early as possible. at 7am we were ready to leave after having idli vada at New Krishna cafe. we got on to the Mysore expressway(NH275) at 8:30 am after driving through a mud road .we reached mysore at 11:23 am.And reached JLR kabini at 12:30 pm .We were told to come to the Golghar(kabini restaurant)at 1:30 pm -for lunch and 2:30 pm- for tea coffee and safari.we stayed in the maharaja suite which had a lovely view of the reservoir and a nice  room.At 1:30 pm we had lunch,It was a buffet lunch . I had a roti with egg curry and my second serving was dal rice . At 2:30 we got ready for our 1st safari of this holiday.The first animal we saw was the chital aka spotted deer . Then we saw the dole (indian wild dog) which is a rare sighting.Doles live in a pack so a pack of doles can easily hunt a tiger. Next we saw hanuman langurs they were sitting on a fallen branch. We also saw a few white throated kingfishers .  Then we saw the great tiger tank tigress  when she just broke cover this is normally what most people dream of seeing . She was so close to us . These pictures of the tiger are taken without any zoom.After seeing the tiger we saw the monitor lizard which is one of the rarest sightings  with only 3 or 4 sightings in a year it was walking just in front of our jeep for about a minute. We also saw a sambar deer she was a female and we saw a gaur ( relative of a bison)which looks very muscly .And we saw an elephant with an itch, it was scratching its back against the tree after a few minutes . 

We came back at 6:30 for tea and coffee and went to our room . In our room I was talking about my safari to my parents and also listening to the waves . We ate dinner at 8:30 and at 9:30 we slept as we were tired.


Day 2 : First morning safari


We were given a wake up call when a person came to our door at 5:45am.We got ready and we were near the golghar at 6am. Our safari started at 6:10 and we were in the forest at 6:30 .As usual we saw chital and then we saw a indian wild pig , doles 

, sambar   deer stag and a tusker(elephant with tusk)   we also saw some peacocks, painted stork and some hornbills near the reservoir. We had breakfast at 9:30 am ,I had a dosa and an omelette.We played in the playground and after playing.And then we did a coracle boat ride(a round boa)


After the boat ride we went to our room where me and my brother played for sometime.  we ate lunch at 1:30 and at 2:30 we were ready for our evening safari.  We learnt about trees and the habitat along with birds  in our evening safari we also saw a few animals such as spotted deers(chital) ,gaurs ,doles , 1 barking deer many langurs and kingfishers . After the safari we had tea and coffee with a pakora.An hour later we had dinner .After dinner we slept.


Day 3 : Last day in kabini


The safari started at 6:05am . And we were in the jungle at 6:33. The first animal we saw was a chital as usual. Then we saw a golden oriole (a type of bird) . We also saw a lot of green pigeons and a spotted dove.as we were waiting to see the predator the naturalist(Mahesh) educated us about the  woodland spider . A male woodland spider is 0.1%of a female woodland spiders size so after mating, the female spider eats the male spider so when the female spider is not looking the male spider tries to escape.After the safari we went to the Golghar for breakfast .Soon after breakfast we went to our room to get our bags and then checked out. That was the end of our educative trip to Kabini.

School is finishing up and generally emotions are running high. There are a lot of things to do. ON top of all this I have been wondering about the human psyche. The words that come to my mind is the "power game". Some people want to always be at the higher end of the equation. Well it's not possible always. I mean the people who generally make the effort to always keep in touch also loose out sometimes. I mean they're also tired. How many times can they alone keep it going? How much of work all these things are! Is ego everything in life? Or is this some sort of message that others have to read. A really close friend of mine is going thru a rough patch now because she was at the lower end of the equation. I always told her it was fine and you do not have to go by book. She was fed up of the mind games and the moves she had to play. It was like constant game of chess. My sister often gets into these introspective moods and I used to blame her then for over analyzing.

Snow, Skis and pain

I signed up for a SKI trip organized by graduate student wing at school because I felt I must do something different. I mean for a person from the tropics getting to do something in snow is bloody exciting. So we left in the morning at 6:45 AM for seven spring ski resort. Though it hasn't snowed for a week at pitt these people kind of preserve the snow with some chemicals and something else. So we entered seven springs and it was really cold. The person from the tropics was of course well equipped. Three layers of sweaters followed by the BIG FAT UGLY red jacket. But a girl's gotta do what she's gotta do when it's below freezing. So after the initial ski lesson we learnt the basics of sking. Then it was upto us to practics and try stuff. So I skied for about 6 hours yesterday and right now my feet feel like jelly fish and my hand and feet are swollen. Doors!

I was wondering whether I should blog this or not. But I simply could not resist. So I am:) What a great explanation! Well so last week they had this old books sale at the university and there was this illustrated history of 'The Doors' and I was sure I had to buy it. So I did and spent a pricely sum for a student (Now people tell me it's okay, I don't have to crib). So this week we have vacations and I'm doing all the things one does during a break. So coming back to the or rather magazine which basically traces the group's history. It was so intense. I would definitely recommend the weak hearted to read a couple of pages a day. Those who can't tear themselves from a book will have to exercise more caution. Take breaks and read it because it is heavy. I mean I'm really not someone into Freud and Maharishi Yogi's teachings. I don't know, I thought it's cool to be a rebel. You know the typical fitting into the "intellectual mould".
