Commune with nature

This weekend, I was just looking forward to sleeping. I did not realize that I would be having so much fun. I woke up on saturday and went to play tennis in the morning, then I called up my dad's college mate, Dr.Pradeep Seethi, to go and spend time with them on saturday. The point to be noted is that my dad has never met pradeep uncle. The initial plan was to just meet them for lunch and come back home but I ended up staying the night. Let me start off by saying that there are very few people in this world who are very warm. Whenever I meet people who are warm, my faith in the world get reaffirmed. Dr. Seethi and Sonia aunty and their sons fall into one such category. They were super cool and so warm that I felt instantly at home, once I stepped into the car when uncle came to pick me up.
Their house is on shadow ridge lane, a beautiful place. It's like a picture out of some discovery magazine. I was greeted to burritos and samosa and hot chai. Wow the way to my heart is surely through my stomach. Then we chatted for a while, after which Sonia aunty and me went winter shopping. I bought myself the essential jacket, shoes and fleece pant. I got a great deal for all the three. We went shopping at TJ Maxx and marshalls and I bought a jeans for Rs 500 (10$). A great pair. I was on a high. Then we came back home and dinner preparations started cauliflower sabji, mushroom sabji and dhal. Then for entrees we had chat! Authentic stuff! We then sat on their backyard. This sort of opens out into a forest. SO it's like they have a forst for themselves. There is a bird bath and last night it was full moon. It was simply amazing. Their house was glittering like in a fairy tale. It reminded me of the beach house a bit. We chatted again till quite late (That's what any member of the Raghavan family loves doing:-) ). Then I gobbled up my dinner like some somalian refugee (though I don't look it one bit) and the piece de resistance, I got to watch "Dus". Their television room has the same couch that joey and chandler have in their apartment, the stretch one. Boy I was on seventh heaven!
I slept like a log and woke up at 11 'o' clock. I had a great breakfast and then aunty dropped me back. She checked out our pigstye and was very nice about it. I also got some leftovers from their house so I need not cook tonight! Yippie!!! After that I put my room in order and came to college to do my assignment. As soon as I opened my inbox, I got a mail from Dr. carter evaluating my previous assignment. I got a real bad grade on that! Now I am back from my reverie and brought to reality. Yuck sometimes I hate grades!!!! Well the weekend was so good that nothing should spoil my mood. Let God bless people like my friends (Gopi and Divi who spoilt me last week) and dad's friends (Pradeep uncle and sonia aunty this week)! Am I lucky or what???

 Intra apartment Tennis Tournament After a gap of nearly 7 years I took part in a tennis tournament at my apartment community in Bangalore. Unlike the younger days when I used to participate in league matches, I was a bit rusty on the tournament front. The funny thing is I do not find many women playing in the community. Hence to have a separate women’s tournament at the community is impossible. Therefore I persuaded my tennis male buddies to allow me to participate in the tournament when the idea was first mooted. They did not need much persuasion as they know I am a certified tennis lover like all of them. This brings an important point, most minorities just want to be treated equally and get a seat at the table. Game,set and match I knew my shot of winning a tournament like this was a long one. Errr..Arghhh

School is finishing up and generally emotions are running high. There are a lot of things to do. ON top of all this I have been wondering about the human psyche. The words that come to my mind is the "power game". Some people want to always be at the higher end of the equation. Well it's not possible always. I mean the people who generally make the effort to always keep in touch also loose out sometimes. I mean they're also tired. How many times can they alone keep it going? How much of work all these things are! Is ego everything in life? Or is this some sort of message that others have to read. A really close friend of mine is going thru a rough patch now because she was at the lower end of the equation. I always told her it was fine and you do not have to go by book. She was fed up of the mind games and the moves she had to play. It was like constant game of chess. Snow, Skis and pain

I signed up for a SKI trip organized by graduate student wing at school because I felt I must do something different. I mean for a person from the tropics getting to do something in snow is bloody exciting. So we left in the morning at 6:45 AM for seven spring ski resort. Though it hasn't snowed for a week at pitt these people kind of preserve the snow with some chemicals and something else. So we entered seven springs and it was really cold. The person from the tropics was of course well equipped. Three layers of sweaters followed by the BIG FAT UGLY red jacket. But a girl's gotta do what she's gotta do when it's below freezing. So after the initial ski lesson we learnt the basics of sking. Then it was upto us to practics and try stuff. So I skied for about 6 hours yesterday and right now my feet feel like jelly fish and my hand and feet are swollen.
