Doors!

I was wondering whether I should blog this or not. But I simply could not resist. So I am:) What a great explanation! Well so last week they had this old books sale at the university and there was this illustrated history of 'The Doors' and I was sure I had to buy it. So I did and spent a pricely sum for a student (Now people tell me it's okay, I don't have to crib).
So this week we have vacations and I'm doing all the things one does during a break. So coming back to the or rather magazine which basically traces the group's history. It was so intense. I would definitely recommend the weak hearted to read a couple of pages a day. Those who can't tear themselves from a book will have to exercise more caution. Take breaks and read it because it is heavy. I mean I'm really not someone into Freud and Maharishi Yogi's teachings. I don't know, I thought it's cool to be a rebel. You know the typical fitting into the "intellectual mould". Phew this book was not for me. I mean I was confused at one point. Was Jim Morrison's lyrics really that deep or were people reading meaning into it?
I guess "Break on through" is one song that I understand. Break from the shackles of worldly possessions and all those repressed feeling and go onto the other side where you are free. But "The End" ..I did not even like the justification. How can a song with lyrics like "Father..I want to Keel keeeellll you (i.e Kill btw stretching for the effect) Mother I want to aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh". What is that?? Work of art or some madman? I guess one needs to be deeper for such things and maybe I'm just a shallow person happy to be a "pseudo intellect" or rather "dumb"!
And in the end what happened to "The doors". They just crumbled. I mean I guess one can have freedom but one needs limits. Following their ideology of not repressing feelings for anything. Morrison never repressed his want for alcohol, resulting in him being drunk always and that destroyed him finally. Had he been saner or rather sober we could have maybe got better music. I mean no one doubts that there were beautiful songs like "roadhouse blues", "LA woman", "Whisky bar" etc.
I guess I am really hit by this book. I mean how much freedom is too much and can one really break free of all that? Actually "The Doors" tried but there was moral policing and Nixon intervened and even they could not be who they wanted. But one formidable thing is they came out of it and then "Roadhouse blues" was born.
Though I like his ideology which says "Do what you think is right" and "Don't blindly follow what society or parents or relatives force upon you", I don't like the realization of his ideology in his life. It seems scary to read about it from the outside world! People please just get high on rock and roll! NO alcohol and drugs!!!!

I love the doors too. It's just their ideology that I don't fully agree with.

I.KNOW.JUST.WHAT.YOU.MEAN.

:)

don't remember when this was - last summer? The one before? Read Rob Marsden's Doors biography and then somehow ended up watching this two hour doors special rockumentary on tv (channel V) which had only THE most unbelievable live/beyond the scenes footage and extended interviews with the surviving band members. I couldn't help thinking what an asshole Jim was being (insert bite-my-tongue-oooops smiley). Over the top.(Remember we watched the Doors movie with Val Kilmer pri? When was that? how old were we?) The inspiration being Dionysus, right? Only Jim wasnt quite God...(guess thats debatable to some ;p).

Anyway, point being inspite of it all - i ended up "grieving" for nearly 2 weeks for some rock star who had been dead for 40 years after that. What can i say? The definition of Charisma.
