Friday..weekend blues!
Yesterday I spent the whole night working. You know me, in my twenty three years of working I rarely have done such a thing. Well I felt quite sick in the morning. Probably also because of self pity.
Well it has been a month in America and how do I feel. Quite frankly I like it. The work is hard but it keeps you busy so there is no time to feel homesick. By and large people are friendly. I once read somewhere that when you visit a new country rather than learning about their culture, you come to know of your own culture. This is exactly how I feel. Of course you do not get to interact much with Americans because a lot of people in my department are non- Americans. In fact one can count the number of Americans and Indian Americans in the class. Today after class at 7:30 PM I met this interesting person in the computer science lounge. He was an American. His family had immigrated years ago from Ukraine. He wanted to know more about India and then about Indian women. He had watched a documentary on the growing influence of America in Indian culture and then posed the question. As always people here find it strange that we live with our parents in India. This is a such a natural thing there that you don’t think that it’s strange. This man called Jo is about 55 years old and every year he teaches himself something new. Imagine someone studying even at 55. God he must be crazy!!! But on the contrary I found him to be well read not only in computer science but history and foreign languages. That is one thing that strikes me about the people you meet in this place…so many interest. And to think we spend all our lives trying to focus on one area of interest!!!
I am going to meet my Dad's friend tomorrow. Let's see how it's going to be. I am on this project called ACME and I am the project leader. I hope this will be an interesting exerience.
